7 WAYS TO THROW AN AMAZING KIDS PARTY WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK

Kids parties have become more and more expensive as parents try to outdo each other to create bigger, more elaborate, and flagrantly over the top birthday bashes. While these extravagant parties can certainly be fun, they are also unnecessary. With a bit of creativity and a dash of ingenuity, you can throw an amazing kids party without breaking the bank.

1. Choose a Free Venue

Why pay for an expensive site when free venues are there for the asking? Even weddings are increasingly moving outdoors, so there is no reason that a kids party needs to happen at a pricey location. If someone in your family has a big, reasonably level backyard, consider hosting the party there. Parks are another terrific option. Consider hiring a marquee to protect partygoers from rain, wind, heat, or cold, and bring in fans or portable heaters as required.

2. Break Out the Acting Skills

Many parents feel that their child’s party is not complete without an appearance by a beloved character or two. You can certainly hire someone to portray virtually any character you can imagine, but this can be expensive and not always satisfactory. Instead, why not ask someone who knows your child well to put in a character appearance? You can hire a costume for a fraction of the price of a performer, and the interactions will be much more personalised.

3. Play Your Own Tunes

Instead of hiring a DJ, put your own mixing skills to the test. With so many free or low-cost music apps to choose from, you can easily design a playlist that perfectly suits your child’s personality and the party’s theme. Consider borrowing or purchasing a wireless speaker setup. If you have any doubts about your own DJ abilities, or are unsure about the technology, ask a teenage cousin or family friend to handle the job.

4. Choose Fun Foods

Instead of hiring a caterer or ordering expensive delivery, choose kid-friendly fun foods instead. Pizza is always a popular option, and large slices can be cut in half for child-sized appetites. Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and sandwiches are other simple and inexpensive options. Consider making these child pleasers a bit more festive by cutting them into fun shapes or adding creative decorations.

5. Bake a Simple Cake

Designer cakes may be all the rage, but most kids care more about eating the cake than admiring it. A day or two before the party, pick up a mix or whip up a basic 1-2-3-4 cake. Use regular icing rather than fondant, and cover it in some simple store bought decorations. Make sure it tastes great, and your kids will not feel deprived.

6. Play Classic Games

Although they may seem old-fashioned, games such as kickball, Red Rover, and Pin the Tail on the Donkey have entertained generations of children. For modern kids growing up with technology, an afternoon of childhood traditions can feel new and exciting. Also leave plenty of time for freestyle play. Depending on the ages and interests of your child and his or her friends, a box of Legos, some crayons, or a few pieces of sidewalk chalk might keep them busy for hours.

7. Don’t Over Plan

For adults used to scheduling every moment, it is only natural to try to develop a detailed plan for the party. Yet kids thrive on the opportunity to just relax and enjoy unstructured time. Create a loose schedule that sets the times for the party to start and end, as well as such major activities as a meal and opening presents. Otherwise, let the fun happen organically. Have some easy activities on hand to bring out if needed, but let the kids take the lead as much as possible.

It is normal to want to give your child the best of everything, but kids’ perceptions are often far different from those of adults. Consider your child’s individual interests, use a touch of creativity, and never feel obligated to keep up with the neighbours. There is no reason that the price of a kids party should break the bank.
