Wedding Costs in Australia

In 2014, the average cost for a wedding in Australia was $36,200. Parents contributed to the costs of just over half the weddings, which were financed through a combination of savings, credit cards, and loans. Roughly 50% of the money was spent on the venue, food, and alcohol, and nearly 10% on wedding attire. Most couples who had trouble affording the wedding of their dreams simply scaled back the wedding, but some took more drastic actions—including 10% who sold a car and 6% who decided not to marry at all.

The majority of Australians chose to marry locally (88%) and honeymoon internationally (65%). Interestingly, 11% decided not to honeymoon at all. Perhaps they spent all their money on the wedding?
